I LOVE TECHNO 2009

I think I've finally recovered from the atrocities of an after party hang-over, a few days ago we courageously set of from Rotterdam Central Station and spent an hour and a bit sitting in packed trains and freezing train stations until we finally reached Gent in Belgium. When we got out of the Station we immediately knew we were at the right place; I Love Techno, Europe's leading dance festival featuring some of the best of the best in electronic music and some 40'000 guests!!!

The night held the following line up:

Blue Room:
Partyharders Squad
The Proxy
A-Trak
The Subs
Boys Noize
Zombie Nation
Tiga

Green Room:
Fader
Johnny D
Paul Kalkbrenner
Joris Voorn
Luke Slater's Planetary Assault
Adam Beyer
Deadmau5
Chris Leibing

Yellow Room:
Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team
Yuksek
Surkin
Laurent Garnier
Tocadisco
Simian Mobile Disco
Brodinski
Kr!z

Red Room:
Len Faki
Speedy J
Vitalic
Dave Clark
Carl Craig

Orange Room:
Sound of Stereo
Buraka Som Sistema
The Count and Sinden
Birdy Nam Nam
Crookers
The Bloody Beetroots
Fake Blood
Don Rimini

If the line-up hasn't got you sweating in regret then I have no idea what you are doing on my blog because this is what it's all about, the night was amazing, halls as big as a country, an atmosphere impossible to ignore; this is the type of party at which the loneliest nerd would feel obliged to let loose and scream out his satisfaction.
The night was highlighted by our 15 minute waits in line to get into each room, followed by another 45 minutes or so of senseless dancing before we went to check out someone else, another thing to keep in mind is, buy plenty of food and drink tickets when you get in, because there is nothing worse than going through 30 euro's of weed, alcohol and god knows what else, and discovering that the random crowd in the main hanger is in fact the cue for food and drinks.

Personally, I haven't had a rougher night in ages, Yuksek was awesome, playing pretty much everyone of his songs live, followed by the Proxy, who for anyone with a hint of what electro is about was totally outrageous, then we jogged eagerly to see A-Trak which for me was the highlight of the evening, we walked in to his remix of MSTRKRFT's Bounce, and we walked out to him feverishly scratching Daft Punks' Robot Rock into a new song, overall...mind-boggling!
Another highlight, is the recently super famous duo of The Bloody Beetroots; with a series of ultra-heavy electro tracks killing the dancefloor, we went absolutely mad, I wouldn't be surprised if a good part of my sanity was left behind in that room, but thanks to this awesome little chap that was filming the whole time you can check it out for yourselves:

The chillout lounge as a matter of fact is an amazing place to be as well, so many different things occured there, such as law abiding police officers walking totally past drug users (or since it was about 4 o'clock, drug abusers) and not even acknowledging their existance, and one very desperate man's attempt to pull his T-Shirt on, I don't know what he was on, but seriously; it took him almost an hour, like, a proper hour to get his head in that T-shirt.
Then again, I may have overdone it with the details, so why not take a listen yourselves and see what it was all about:

Yes We Want More!!!

It's finally hit the streets!!! The Aston Shuffle's releasing "Do You Want More" on Hussle Recordings with a bunch of delicious remixes from Alex Gopher the Subs and The Aston Shuffle, yes, they remixed their own song, seems to be popular like with Van She's Vemixes. Let's skip the bullocks and get right to the point, here's a taste of their new release, slightly disappointed, I expected more out of it, but your opinion is your own, so check it out!

And an all time favourite by The Aston for the road:

New Years Top Ten!!!

I recently went to this party in Rotterdam, club Watt, possibly the most depressing and disappointing party I've ever been to. It was supposed to be some kind of New Years party, on the 10th of September, don't bother asking me why, it was a sly attempt at humour by our host Eastpak and the highlights of the party were supposed to be Hot Chip, followed by Goose, who I expected nothing less than a night to remember. Hot Chip started up with "Ready for the Floor" remixed by Soulwax, I believe it was a special edit and it had my hopes high, following this amazing track came a continuous clamor of minimal music that sent me, disappointed, to the smoker's terrace hoping to smoke a joint while waiting for Goose... Around 3am, ther minimal still pumping, I decided to ask the Bouncer whether Goose had died or something, to which he replied that since there weren't enough people they weren't coming, so I left.

The point of all this is that it reminds me of posting a top ten, since Soulwax's remix of "Ready For The Floor" is definitely in there.

Here is what I consider a decent top ten, in no particular order:

And one for the road since we have some kind of blog love going about for the Aston Shuffle:

Discobitch - C'est Beau La Bourgeoisie

Discobitch is an amazing french trio of Kylian Mash (on the left) is the producer of the hit "C'est Beau La Bourgeoisie" , that climbed up to the top of Europe's house charts last year. Laurent Konrad (on the right) is responsible for the dirty electro sound of the song, and the chick with the absolutely unnoticeable orange hair did some amazing work with the sexy-french-english dirty lyrics (check out the lyrics and the translation...so Uffie!).
I fell in love with this song, the first time I heard it in a friends' car. For the last 24 hours I've been nagging him (and spamming him with so many messages and calls :D ) to send it to me, when he finally did. So, enough with the bullcrap, I present you...

Round Table Knights - new amazing songs!

Round Table Knights... I don't know how they came up with this very random name, but it sounds good and I like it. The DJ duo comes all the way from Bern, Switzerland with some really nice tracks. It's strange that they don't belong to a particular style, they even say they like it "diverse", so they don't bother carrying whether their songs fit their style or not (haha cool!). They produce "all kinds of electronic / acoustic / futuristic / exciting / romantic / intense music". Cool! However, I fell in love with one of their songs called "Hold Me Back" - it has that cheerful, funky lyrics and melody that cheer you up whenever :) I also found a sweet remix by The Bulgarian, who is an upcoming Bulgarian electro DJ. Thank God, he gives me hope that the electro culture is finally going to hit there. There you go:

Nid and Sancy - Kidzz video

Nid and Sancy (actually Sid and Nancy) are the newest of my electro artists. They're from Belgium and they got some CRAZY music and especially videos. "Kidzz" (produced by Little Red Robot a.k.a. Seth Shukovsky, featuring Merlin Bronques' photography) completely blew me away... I immediately fell in love with the video...
Little Red Robot is a company that has done animations, clips, and advertisements for world-famous companies like Coca Cola, Nike, EA, Activision, Universal Studios... I think the Little Red Robot deserves our applause :)
I'm sorry I didn't write much about Nid and Sancy, but, I'm still in the process of research, and I can barely find any info about them. I will make another post soon , entirely about the duo, and hopefully will post some of their tracks.

Wolfgang Gartner has gone electro too!

Woflgang Gartner - my newest of the artists I've discovered in the music branch. He's from the states, he's talented, and he's got originality. Joey Youngman, the name his parents gave him, made the alias Wolfgang Gartner as to put the beginning of his new self and his new style of performing. Youngman is describing his music style as club, although the tracks he has produced, according to me, are far from the boring old housish club music. “I was getting bored with house, with that whole sound,” he says. “I basically hadn’t evolved musically since the late 90's and had been rehashing the same ideas over and over. Something just snapped and I decided it was time for a complete change.” Well, he achieved what he was looking for. In an year he released 3 singles which hit the top 10's list at beatport.com. Here are some tracks I, personally, found sweet :)

N.A.S.A. Gifted (feat. Kanye West, Santogold, and Lykke Li) Video

One of the songs that is on my "Golden hits" list :D I'm never gonna be tired of it. So here's the video, which is as cool as the song itself. Kanye West have always been trying to stand out of the RnB crowd and all the music television's bullshit that's been flooding us since the television was invented. He's videos, his sounds, his outfit, and his lyrics have always been different. This clip is a perfect example of Kayne's sense for originality.
The combination of the artists Lykke Li, Kanye West and Santogold, was pretty unexpected, but very successful indeed. N.A.S.A. (North America/South America) is a project ran by the duo of Sam Spiegel (Squeak E. Clean) and Ze Gonzales (DJ Zegon). Those two guys are responsible for this cutting edge collaboration... and IT'S AMAZING! The video is a combination of bizarre-spacey-futuristic-innovative-transforming animation makes is absolutely unique, thanks to the enormous crew of top producers, designers, directors, animators, etc. P.S. I don't know why, but this reminds me of Karl Grandin and his wicked designs (check out previous post).

Note: listen to the lyrics :)
Check out The Aston Shuffle's remix!!

The Aston Shuffle's Gone Mental Slackers!!!

And it's the Aston Shuffle yet again delivering another remix that'll really rock your boat, it rocked mine, this time they went nuts on Full Mental Slackers' "Auto Riot", turning it into another of their signature remix, lots of pitch bends, nice synths, and those little vocal cuts that remind us of their remix of Nu-Coalition a while back.

Another Macster?!

It was recently, when checking out the Hype Machine that I noticed their absence of stuff from Steve Mac, which stroke me as odd since it seems Pete Tong has recently played Paddy's Revenge, Steve's latest track in every mix he got the chance to.
Although, I must admit he slightly disappointed me with that track, as it's a bit too constant and housish, while still having that sweet little Irish feel and melody to it, and you must admit the ladies in the clip are more than enjoyable :) .
With production credits ranging through Kate Winslett, Kelly Clarkson and even Atomic Kitten, sadly not amongst my favourites, but he still hit top of the charts, I feel that I should post some of his stuff up here for you guys to check out.

Etienne De Crecy

Etienne De Crecy - going under various aliases such as Superdiscount, EDC, Minos Pour Main Basse and Mooloodjee - is an innovative Dj and Producer known for his house features, and more recently his step into electro, setting off a whole new scene. He is amongst those that established Electro House, siding with people such as his fellow Frenchies; Daft Punk. Etienne evolved a really catchy electro style, that has many elements of house in it, and making his sound somewhat unique I should say his music is almost indespensable.
Etienne's style became a part of what we like to call the "French Touch" which has recently grown and still grows on the international music scene, by many his music is also recognized as fun, fresh and striking electro.
And his stage performance of his new track "Welcome" was amaaaazing, I haven't got the slightest idea how he pulled it
off, but the clip leaves you feeling rather stoned and confused for a while, it's probably the most
brilliant light show since Daft Punk's legendary Pyramid Show (youtube video) in 2006. !!!!!!WOW!!!!!!

ENJOY :)

Dragonette gets remixed by Up For Grabs!!!

As you probably noticed, there is more than 1 person running the blog and posting stuff (often leading to a conflict of interest :D ) but we both agreed on posting this recently finished remix I did of Dragonette's "Fixin To Thrill", lots of people tell me I seem to like piling sounds up, but this time it looks like I piled them right :) hope you like it...

Always More And More

If you've been to Yuksek's myspace in the last while you would have heard his remix preview of Autokratz's "Always More" from there forth coming EP I think, "Down & Out In Paris and London", it's been on there for a while but the song itself seemed to be nowhere to be found, so, as soon as I layed my hands on it I felt the need to post it.
His signature vocoder and synth hits, along with his little piano solo's gives this song a really Yukseky feel that reminds us he's just been getting better and better lately, evolving his style into what seems to be close to Daft Punk's "Robot Rock" with a lot of tweaks and tricks, and without the boring builds that seemed to take forever :D

Another track I really felt the need to post here was The Aston Shuffle's remix of NASA's "Gifted" which I gotta say really hits the spot on my playlist, especially around the drop at 3.30 or something, making it really worth the wait.
